Original Civil War Battle Flag Rededication
Starting date:
Event Details
The 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Living History Association is a Non-Profit Organization whose mission is to accurately portray Civil War Living History, honoring the 29th, to the public via educational presentations, parades, reenactments, and all other activities or involvement which promote this end; and to assist in the preservation of Civil War history, including battlefields, buildings, grave sites, grounds, monuments, or anything significant, through charitable donations or contributions at the local, state, and national level.
Our project of preservation was to conserve one of the original battle flags of the 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. In late 2013, we began fundraising efforts to restore this "valuable relic", once revered by local residents, to its former glory. After raising nearly $15,000.00 in 2 years of work, the conservation efforts are now complete and the restored flag is coming home to Akron and will be on display for one day only.
On Saturday, November 14, from 11 am - 4 pm at Main Library join the 29th Ohio Living History Association for a celebration of this historic artifact. The flag will be on display in Meeting Room 2AB. A special program will take place at 1 pm. We wish to invite anyone and everyone with any love for history, the Civil War, Veterans, or just would love to celebrate the preservation of an historic artifact to please join us for this occasion.
