No matter what time of year it is, everyone looks forward to Harvest Fest. This two-day celebration will be held on September 27 – 28, 2014. It’s a time when people fill the streets to indulge in all that is autumn. Enjoy the Taste of Green Lake food faire, Jack Taylor Memorial Classic Car Show, kids’ games and activities, festive music, dozens of farm market vendors, and over 100 crafters that will keep you shopping for hours. The craft fair showcases their hand-made creations. Favorites include jewelry, wooden signs, glass art and copper sculptures, among so many more. The craft locations are in each of the three downtown Green Lake parks. All that ‘crafting’ may get you hungry, so treat yourself to a cream-puff, handmade pie, or another sweet or savory item from the many service organizations offering good eats on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. Nestled in with the crafters at Playground Park are the kids’ games and activities. Back by popular demand is the petting zoo and pony rides. Your kids will enjoy bouncing around on giant trampolines or the inflatable activity zone. Have fun and support the Green Lake area youth organizations when playing a variety of carnival games. IMG_1005_miniSet up along Water Street by the Mill Pond, dozens of farm market vendors display their home-grown, hand-made and locally-raised goods. Bring home a bushel of apples, a sour-dough loaf, pumpkins, mums and all the other fall produce you can imagine. Sample hand-mixed dips and spreads, and enjoy talking to the local farmers and artisans. Saturday’s Harvest Fest parade is the largest of the year with nearly 75 entries. Grab a seat on Mill Street and sit back for the show. Jugglers, marching bands, stilt-walkers, tiny racing cars, whacky-wheelers, antique cars, hand-decorated floats and of course fire engines will put on a great event. One of the most anticipated features of Harvest Fest, Taste of Green Lake, opens its tents at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. A street-full of area restaurateurs send wafts of gourmet smells into the air. Brat-burger on a pretzel bun, butternut squash ravioli, tenderloin sandwich and seafood chowder are just a few of the menu items you’ll find. The most common practice is to bring a friend or family to share all your dishes with. Also on Sunday, 100s of classic cars will line the streets on display. The Jack Taylor Memorial Car Show features 1979 or older, show condition autos. Stroll the streets pick your favorite. » See 2013 event flyer
