25 Los Artistas Vaqueros of the Verde Valley - An exhibit and sale of four local cowboy artists, Carlos Hadaway, Doug Katonak, Paul Kolwaite and Harold Lyon, kicks off Fountain Hills Pony Express Days, 4:30-7 pm.

25 Pony Express Days - For 50 years the Navajo County Hashknife Sheriff’s Posse with up to 30 riders participating, recreates the ride of the Pony Express from Holbrook to Scottsdale with stops and celebrations in communities along the way. It all culminates with their participation in Scottsdale’s annual Parada del Sol.

On this day, the riders gallop into Fountain Hills and are officially greeted at the Post Office in the early afternoon, followed by a free festive event, featuring music, food and drink at the Fountain Hills Community Center. 2-6 pm.

9 - 11 Fountain Hills Great Fair - Each February the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce hosts this three day event, which features nearly 500 artists and artisans from around the country lining the shaded Avenue of the Fountains. This festival attracts close to 160,000 visitors from the valley and out of state. In addition to having the finest professional artists and artisans from various parts of the country, this festival features the annual Hot Air Balloon Rally held at 7 a.m. on Sunday. There are great photo opportunities of balloons reflecting against the water with the fountain in the background. A unique tradition among the balloonists is to attempt to dip their baskets into Fountain Lake.

The Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Booth is located at the intersection of the Avenue of the Fountains and Verde River Drive, and is available to assist you.

Rain or Shine - Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Be sure to watch for the "purple people" at the fairs. They are over 300 volunteers who wear purple sashes and hand out programs and greet nearly 200,000 people attending each fair. They work in teams and each team works three shifts. Each team is then assigned a route. This has been a tradition for nearly 25 years.

16 St. Patrick's Day Celebration - Festivities begin with traditional Irish music at the lake. Our famous fountain will turn emerald green at high noon. An appearance will be made by the Fountain Hills leprechaun offering his Irish goodies. 3:00 PM.

6 Eggstravaganza - Over 10,000 eggs stuffed with candy and other prizes will be placed throughout the ball fields at Golden Eagle Park for children to find. The Easter Bunny will be available for hugs and pictures throughout the event. Children up to 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult. 09:00 AM - 10:00 AM. RAIN DATE: following Saturday.

25 - 27 Fountain Festival of Arts & Crafts Fair - Each November the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce hosts this three day event, which features nearly 500 artists and artisans from around the country lining the shaded Avenue of the Fountains. This festival attracts an estimated 150,000 visitors from all over the Valley and state, who come to appreciate and purchase fine art and enjoy some good food and entertainment Several musicians entertain the crowd at various locations throughout the fair, also selling their musical recordings. Shaded seating areas are provided near the food courts, making it the perfect way to spend a cool sunny November in Fountain Hills.

28 Thanksgiving Day Parade - For the past 20 years, the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce has hosted the only Thanksgiving Day Parade in Arizona, locally referred to as the "Parada de Los Cerros" (Parade in the Hills).

The parade is held traditionally on Thanksgiving Day, offering a different theme each year. Participants include local businesses and organizations, schools, senior, youth, and church groups, which can include floats, groups and bands. 09:00 AM - 10:30 AM.

5 - 7 Holiday Luminarias - For three nights before Christmas, the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce hosts the lighting of the luminarias, with hundreds of volunteers making this event successful. For some volunteers, it has become a family tradition. Thousands of luminarias line the streets of downtown Fountains Hills and the shores of Fountain Lake each night for the three nights.

Lighting luminarias is a Southwestern tradition, dating back for centuries. Small lighted paper bags are assembled and distributed by the volunteers along the streets at sunset each day. This special tradition has added a warm welcome to the community's holiday spirit.
