2 General Sam Houston's Birthday & Texas Independence Celebration - Walker County Historical Commission, Sam Houston Memorial Museum, and the Sam Houston Statue and Visitors Center announce a coffee at the Sam Houston Statue & Visitor Center at 9:15 a.m. and a ceremony at 11 a.m. at General Sam Houston's gravesite in Oakwood Cemetery. The traditional march to the gravesite will begin at 10:15 a.m. at Austin Hall and proceed along University Ave. A reservation only lunch will follow at 12:30 p.m. at The Homestead on 19th Street. "A Toast to Texas" and Birthday Cake will be at 2 p.m. at the Wynne Home Arts Center. The day's events will end with the Open House and Dedication from 4-6pm for the W.S. Gibbs Conference Hall at the Katy and E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center. All events are open to the public.

27 General Sam Houston Day - Celebrates the life and times of Gen. Sam Houston with life-skill demonstrations, authentic 19th-century dress, continuous entertainment and hands-on children's activities. Tour the homes the Houstons lived in, gain access into the Steamboat House and the 19th century period cabins on the property. The events on the grounds and admission into the museum are FREE! 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4TX0528016e008 - Huntsville Airing of the Quilts - Biennial - odd years. The practice of airing the quilts after a long winter continues the first Saturday in May in historic downtown Huntsville, Texas "On the Square". At the largest outdoor quilt show in Texas, visitors will be able to see new and antique quilts, many of which are for sale. Over 300 quilts will be hanging around the Courthouse lawn and from its balcony. Quilts are also visible along the streets surrounding the square. Vendor booths will offer unique items for sale and don't forget to visit the Old Town Theatre for the Mini-Quilt Silent Auction and view the exhibit of quilts. 9 AM till 4 PM.
