Annual Newton Car Show
- Newton's Largest Annual event! Come see over 350+ cars, trucks, hot-rods, classic cars and motorcycles in over 14 classes of competition. Fun for the whole family! Our shows attract about 12,000 visitors to the 6-block area for the big event. 130 Trophies, Cash Prizes, Dash Plaques, Great Goodie Bags. and Free T-shirts to the First 75 Entries. Visitors can tour the cars, visit displays and exhibits and dine in our Food Court. New this year is the Pin Up Contest and the Valve Cover Racing event. The Newton Car Show runs from 9 am to 4 pm, always the first Saturday in May.Don't miss the Cruise Night on Friday at 6:30 PM., which is free for all cars and has become a town favorite with kids and adults lined up on both sides of the street to see the cars and hot rods in action. The Bison: American Icon
- Kauffman Museum is the only Kansas host for "The Bison: American Icon" which is traveling the United States for five years. Explore the significance of the North America bison from the Plains Indian cultures of the 1800s, through commercial trade and development, to becoming a national symbol. St. Mary's/Our Lady of Guadalupe Family Festival
- St. Mary's and Our Lady of Guadalupe Churches are having their annual Family Festival on and it is going to be bigger than ever. Friday through Saturday will start off each day at 7:00a.m. through 11:00 am. with an ALL YOU CAN EAT BREAKFAST BUFFET followed by a Mexican Buffet for lunch and dinner. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and soda as well as lots and lots of wonderful snacks will be available throughout the day. 7:00a.m. Friday and Saturday also marks the opening of the Giant Garage Sale (over 50 families). A whole area will be devoted to carnival games, inflatable amusement, hay maze, face painting, cake walk, etc... for the kids. Adults will have fun too. There are games and activities for you as well. We will feature and Arts and Crafts Market with varied vendors. Pull up a chair to enjoy watching the matachinez dancers and a soccer game. Bethel College Fall Festival
- For over 35 years, Bethel College has celebrated education, diverse cultural traditions, special foods, fine arts, crafts, and friendship at its annual Fall Festival, held each year on an extended weekend in late September or early October. Over 5,000 people come to Newton and the Bethel campus to enjoy an array of activities. Whether you're acquainted with Bethel or not, you're invited to make yourself at home on our campus, greet old friends and make new ones, sample new foods, listen to new sounds, and enjoy Bethel tradition. Thursday Each year, the Newton community kicks off Bethel's Fall Festival on Thursday evening, 6-9 p.m., with Taste of Newton downtown. Dozens of food booths sponsored by groups from the college, area churches, civic clubs and service organizations line the streets. Music and dance groups perform at two locations. Friday On Friday, the Bethel College Admissions Office hosts prospective students and their families on campus. Classes end at noon, and the afternoon and evening include special activities for Bethel students and guests. Saturday Most Fall Festival activities are held on Saturday. The campus comes alive with an array of activities: * foods of all kinds, including traditional Mennonite fare * booths by academic departments and clubs * music and other entertainment on three stages * children's activities of all kinds, indoors—including a Peace Fair for All Ages—and outside—including a petting zoo and inflatable games * Bethel athletic events, including women's and men's soccer games and the homecoming football game * 5-K run-jog-walk for anyone wanting to join the fun * arts and crafts by alumni and guests of the college * full-length stage production of a drama, comedy or musical * humorous programs in the Swiss-German and Low-German dialect * exhibits in the art gallery and at Kauffman Museum * craft demonstrations and special features, such as displays of antique quilts * an auction and Market on the Green to benefit the Bethel College Women's Association * special lectures by alumni and guests * the latest in Bethel "logo wear" and memorabilia at the Bethel Bookstore * walks through a prairie exhibit and along Sand Creek near the college * alumni reunions for grads in various majors, for young alums, and for the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th anniversary classes Sunday On Sunday morning, the Bethel College Mennonite Church, adjacent to the campus, hosts a special worship service. Buffalo Barbecue
- Feast on Kansas-raised bison and support Kauffman Museum! The museum is reviving the Bethel College tradition of buffalo BBQs (served from 1936-1981) with the twist that the former "stag" event now welcomes women and children. Meat prepared by Gehring Buffalo Ranch, Moundridge, and sides by Keith's Foods, Goessel. The meal will be served on BC's Centennial Plaza (directly across Main Street from the museum). The Amazing Goodtime Music Machine Show
- A premier barbershop quartet of the Central States District is the headline attraction in the Men In Harmony Chorus show at the Fox Theatre in Newton on November 5th at 7:00 p.m. Named “The Noise Boys”, this dubious foursome came together in July of 2001, dedicated to singing well and having a good time. That dedication helped them to win the Central States District Quartet Championship in convincing fashion just three months later in October of 2001. Along with that dedication, their shared love of singing and laughter creates an exceptional bond that makes a quartet click. Quartet members include, Tenor Bemo Myers, he works with the criminally insane in St. Joseph, MO; Lead Curt Angel has placed as high as 6th place on the International Stage. Curt is from Tulsa, OK; Baritone Don Conner, also lives in Tulsa, OK where he is a professional chef; and Bass Jeff Veteto, utterly loves Barbershop singing. He has sung in 14 different quartets, including currently singing with both of his sons. He also directs both men and women barbershop chorus’. Jeff is from Springfield, MO. With a rich background in quarteting that includes five qualifiers to international, Bemo, Curt, Don, and Jeff blend their talents into a quartet that promises to get your attention. Their many years of show experience have enabled them to create a wonderful mix of solid musical production and light-hearted humor that will be sure to tickle your entertainment fancy.
