Birdfest at Bellingrath Gardens
- As part of the 2nd Annual Alabama Coastal Birdfest, Bellingrath Gardens and Home will host a mini-expo from 9am-3pm on Saturday, October 22. Participants can enjoy a life-sized porcelain replica of the woodpecker in Delchamps Gallery of Boehm Porcelain. The piece, created by Edward Marshall Boehm in 1964, was considered to be Boehm's largest example of hard paste porcelain. Additional events of the Mini-Expo will include Gardening for Birds and Butterflies demonstrations and interpretative programming along the Bayou Boardwalk. Information, ideas and tips will also be shared by numerous area environmental organizations. The Bellingrath Gift Shop will feature notecards of original paintings of Bill Summerour, noted bird artist. Balloon Glow and Trick or Treating
- Saturday will be aglow with hot air balloons, scarecrows and trick-or-treaters. The first annual Hot Air Balloon Glow will feature approximately a half a dozen balloons surrounded by scarecrows created by local organizations, businesses, groups and individuals. Trick-or-treating will be provided by scarecrow participants for children to enjoy the magic of the autumn season in a safe and glowing environment. Also, the scarecrows will be installed throughout the 65 acre property for judging beginning that evening. It's an evening of safe, family and glowing fun! Mum Festival
- Beginning the last weekend in October, Bellingrath's horticultural staff will begin to install the cascading mums, potted mums and mum baskets throughout the 65-acre Garden estate. For over nine months, over 8,000 chrysanthemums in over 20 varieties, including "Chajin", "Shinotome", "Cherry Blossom" and "Himegokoromo", have been carefully grown and cared for. They will be on display for only four short weeks. Talk about a labor of love! Mum Festival Family Day
- Mum Festival Family Day, which will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2005, will include a fun day for family members of all ages. The 3rd Annual Marigold Growing Contest has set record numbers for 2005! Over 2,500 students from 20 schools in Mobile and Baldwin Counties will see who can grow the best marigold by November 5. Participating teachers and students receive free passes to Mum Festival Family Day and students will also receive two 50% off admission passes for family and friends show off their prized marigolds.
