Priceless Pieces Past and Present Quilt Extravaganza
- Old quilts, new quilts, quilts with stories, beauty and memories hang for the month at Roanoke Island Festival Park Gallery. The annual exhibition features quilts with a connection to Dare County either by owner or maker. The gallery is transformed with quilts hanging from the rafters and the room is abuzz with quilters working on projects and talking about their passion. Hours are Monday- Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and volunteers keep the gallery open on weekends from noon- 4 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. Annual Roanoke Island American Indian Cultural Festival & Powwow
- Grand Entry on Saturday will begin at 12:00 Noon and at 1PM on Sunday. Featuring gatherings of American Indian tribes from across the nation dressed in tribal regalia, traditional & contemporary American Indian music, dance, visual arts, storytelling, back wood survival demos, crafts and health screenings while learning about various dances and the regalia worn. Always held the second weekend in Aug. Saturday, (10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and Sunday, (10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.) At various times during the day, the Master of Ceremonies will invite the public to participate in social dances. Educational displays will exhibit artifacts used and items traded by the American Indians. American Indian foods as well as other festival foods will be available for purchase. Elizabethan Christmas
- Visitors to the Park can get a taste of 16th century holiday traditions as they make decorations, learn special dances, sing songs, discover food and drink of the season, and indulge in merriment with members of the Guild of St. Andrew.
