Each year a strong emphasis is placed on youth activities and accomplishments. 9 - 11 Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival - Music, crafts, cars and family fun abound at the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival. Artisans and visitors will enjoy showing and viewing creative crafts and artwork on the square. Come and see the final products related to problem-solving in the world of creativity and imagination. Our crafters and fine artists will be located in the mix of the activities the festival has to offer. Visitors to the festival are encouraged to stroll past this area to locate that special gift.

Your taste buds will be tantalized as the square will be filled with a large variety of food trucks. Grab a sandwich, snack or a drink and saunter through our downtown of imagination while listening to music filling our local streets.

The Community Crossroads Stage is located at the intersection of South Main and Vine St. Throughout the days of the festival you will be engaged with unique, fresh, and fun activities all related to the arts. Who knows, maybe you will be involved with creative activities…and not even know it!

Held on Wednesday through Sunday of the second week of August, the Festival's trademark is its outstanding music and entertainment format and a juried artisan exhibition offering awards for artistry and presentation.

23 Mount Vernon's Annual Holiday Parade & Lighting Ceremony - The holiday season in Mount Vernon is filled with many activities for the family. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, Mount Vernon celebrates the start of the Christmas season with its annual Christmas Walk and Parade.

The Holiday Parade features many entries decorated to fit the theme of the year. Santa makes his grand appearance at the Parade with the procession beginning at Sugar Street at 3:30 pm.

The fun continues with Downtown stores open for visitors to shop, browse, or just get ideas for gifts. At the end of the day, everyone is invited to partake in the Square Lighting Ceremony and Caroling for Christ with the Salvation Army Band directed by Major Robert Bender. This tradition that you won't want to miss, with the addition of new lights on the large evergreen across from City Hall.

Visitors to Mount Vernon during the Holiday season will experience the joy and warmth of the people of Mount Vernon at the Holiday festivities.
