3 - 7 Spring Shopping Expo Benefit for March of Dimes - Spring Shopping Expo to Benefit the March of Dimes

Perrysburg, Ohio – Helping to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the March of Dimes, local direct sales vendors and crafters will be participating in a Spring Shopping Expo just in time to pick out one-of-a-kind gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and graduations. This event will be held at the Holiday Inn French Quarter, 10630 Fremont Pike, in Perrysburg on Sunday, April 21 from 10 am to 3 pm. With over sixty Crafters and Direct Sales vendors, there will be products ranging from jewelry, home decorating, housewares, recycled art, yard art, personal and skin care, pet items, photo art, children’s items, clothing, accessories, stationary and homemade chocolates, caramel corn, pastries and much more.

The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. About 4 million babies were born in the United States last year and the March of Dimes helped each and every one through research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs. Raffle tickets will be available at a cost of $5 each with a chance to win a white water rafting trip, 2 round trip United Airlines tickets, $500 Marathon gas cards,, and other fabulous prizes. A portion of the vendors’ fees is also going to support the March of Dimes.

There is free admission and free parking.

3 - 4 Drums at the Rapids - Miniature War Gaming Conference - Fight epic battles on a small scale Friday and Saturday in the Visitor Center when we host HMGSGL's wargaming conference. Many time periods will be represented from Roman wars to WWII. Warfare on the land, sea, and air will be re-created on tabletop battlefields. Admission to participate is $12 per day or $18 for both days which includes admission to the site. Regular site admission applies for those who wish to watch but not participate. Co-sponsored by the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, Great Lakes Chapter.

25 - 27 First Siege 1813 and Memorial Day - The British are coming! United States and British soldiers and Woodland Indians re-create historic 1813 battles at Fort Meigs. See recreated battles, musket and artillery demonstrations and camp life demonstrations. All ladies are invited to attend the tea and learn more about 1812-era food and crafts. Join an "1813 Patrol" and accompany a squad of American soldiers on patrol as they look for the enemy. Come see our new period bake oven and learn about the vital role bake ovens played in feeding the army.

Volunteers at Fort Meigs in honoring the men and women of our armed forces. War of 1812 soldiers and civilians reenact camp life throughout the day. A special wreath laying ceremony takes place at 2pm in front of the monument within the fort. The ceremony ends with a wreath laying and musket firing at the Pennsylvania monument.

1 - 2 Muster on the Maumee - See the evolution of the common soldier from the Romans through modern day wars. Soldiers, artisans and civilians from Roman soldiers, medieval knights through the Vietnam era give demonstrations throughout the weekend. Period military camps are open for visiting and reenactors will answer questions you may have. Musket, rifle, and artillery demonstrations take place throughout the day. Try your hand at the "pike college" too! See one of the largest Roman and Viking Encampments in the country! Period trades people offer their wares for sale and food is available from a variety of vendors.

3 1813 Independence Celebration - In 1813 Independence Day was the most important national holiday. The 4th of July at Fort Meigs was celebrated with cannon firings, toasts, muskets and a day of leisure. War of 1812 soldiers and civilians will recreate this day through cannon firings, demonstrations and hands-on activities for the kids. The highlight of the day is the eighteen-gun salute accompanied by toasts and fife and drum music starting at 2pm.

War of 1812 soldiers and civilians will created an encampment throughout the weekend. See musket demonstrations, watch cannon firings and try your hand at period games and activities.

6 - 7 Drums Along the Maumee - See and hear fife and drum corps from across the country play military music from the 1750s through the War of 1812. The musicians perform with authentic wooden fifes and rope tensions drums. Music starts at 10 a.m. both days and the corps will perform as a massed band at 4 p.m. each afternoon. War of 1812 soldiers and civilians will provide demonstrations of weapons, camp life and provide hands-on activities for the kids.

Period dancing from the Early American period returns this year. The public is encouraged to participate. No experience, costuming or partner is required. Our experienced callers will guide you through the dances. Just bring your interest and enthusiasm.

4 - 12 Garrison Ghost Walk - Come to Fort Meigs for a "spirited" stroll this fall at the Garrison Ghost Walk. Tour the fort with your 1812 guide and encounter the spookier side of this historic place. The whole family will enjoy tales from the past, and while the ghosts aren't real, the fun certainly is. This family friendly event is by reservation only.
