May

4 Chunnenuggee Fair - The Chunnenuggee Fair has musical entertainment. food and lots of arts and crafts in front of the historic Second Empire-style Bullock County Courthouse. The Chunnenuggee Fair, celebrated each second Saturday in May, is a modern continuation of the pre-Civil War festival that was originally hosted by the oldest horticultural society in the United States, the Chunnenuggee Garden Club. The 19th Century Fair boasted a large exhibit of horticultural advancements of the time and the best cakes in the community. The modern fair tries to emulate the old by including a cake sale with cakes made by bakers of local renown, and sales and raffles of plants from the surrounding plant producers.

It includes a juried Arts and Crafts show, live entertainment from local and regional singers and bands, a made-from-scratch Cake Sale, children's games and rides, and lots of food! We always have a variety of entertainment. There are games, rides, characters, events, and plenty of goodies to be found at the booths to keep smiles on the faces of children and adults of any age! As always, there's a lineup of local and regional talent on stage, filling the air with everything from rock and blues to country and folk music - and everything in between!

December

12 - 27AL0403025e006 - Union Springs Christmas Windows in Downtown Union Springs - 73 windows have been painted with Christmas themes in the windows of Union Springs downtown merchants. When the Bullock County Art Guild set out to paint Christmas scenes on the windows of businesses downtown, no one could have expected what blessings would come from this endeavor. Originally, we hoped to paint cute Christmas scenes like Santa, reindeer, or snowmen on the windows of ten or so businesses, and with a small budget, it was all we could do. Before we knew it more business owners were asking us to paint their windows. As the list began to grow, donations started pouring in and helped us with our increasing supply costs. All of the art guild members who participated in painting the windows donated their time and found that the fellowship of working on this project together and the outpouring of support from the community was priceless. The appreciation we received from citizens was incredibly heartwarming. Vehicles would stop in the middle of the street, and they would holler to us, "Thank you for what you're doing, it looks so good." We had many folks walk up to us and say how much they loved what we were doing. Something magical was happening in Union Springs. As of now, seventy-three windows have been painted all over town. We are grateful that the owner of the Fair Company building, Lee Mahaffey, allowed us to paint the entire front of his building and to Mr. Mike Green for not only allowing us to paint on the windows of his building but for suggesting that we could possibly do other projects on his windows like for the Field Trials. This is such a great idea, and we are looking forward to the opportunity. If the Bullock County Art Guild's mission was to enhance the Christmas spirit in Union Springs and unite the citizens as one people who simply enjoy the holiday season, then we would say, mission accomplished.
