The Arts and Crafts Movement initially developed in England in 20th century (1890) as a reaction to the dark and cluttered Victorian Interiors. Subsequently this style was taken up by American designers and architects particularly those in the Southwest and California, thus the term Mission Style. While the Arts and Crafts Movement was declining by the 1920's resurgence began in the 1970's and has continued into the 21st century.
