Perry Meltzer, PsyD

(New York State Limited Permit Psychologist)

Over the past 6 years, Dr. Meltzer has provided treatment to adults, older adults, adolescents, and children with anxiety, mood, behavioral, and personality disorders. He has received extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Time Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy (TLDP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Existential-Humanistic approaches to psychotherapy. He has gained experience in a variety of settings, including hospitals, community mental health centers, and schools providing individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapy.

Dr. Meltzer provides individual, couples, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults under the supervision of Dr. Norman Fried in Manhasset, NY. He employs an integrative psychotherapeutic approach that is specifically designed to address the unique needs of each person. Dr. Meltzer’s stance towards treatment is founded in acceptance, validation, and non-judgment, while at the same time, encourages effective change. His work often includes a focus on adjusting to life transitions, incorporating mindfulness-based approaches, implementing new problem solving strategies, developing adaptive patterns of thinking and behavior, increasing interpersonal effectiveness, developing skills to tolerate and regulate intense emotional experiences, gaining new insight, and building a sense of joy and personal meaning. Ultimately, Dr. Meltzer aims to facilitate a new understanding and experience within a supportive therapeutic relationship that helps mobilize the will to make change.

Dr. Meltzer is also a member of the team at the Center for Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (CCDBT). He provides individual CBT and DBT and co-leads DBT skills groups for adolescents and adults. Dr. Meltzer received specialized DBT training in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department at the Zucker Hillside Hospital.
