Bunnell S.T.A.G.E Presents Seussical the Musical
- If you "do not like green eggs and ham," get ready to dare and heap your plate full with the Bunnell Student Theater Arts Guild of Entertainment (S.T.A.G.E.) production of Seussical the Musical. This musical, created by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, is based on the many works of Dr. Seuss; join us on odysseys from the Jungle of Nool to McEliott's pool, where your favorite characters leap off the page, onto the stage, and into the audience in a burst of color, style, and song. Our menu will delight the whole family "from the smallest of small, to the tallest of all.In a musical medley of styles, Seussical borrows its plots and characters directly from Dr. Seuss children's books and tells his stories in the universal language of song, from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk. Leading the audience on an unpredictable adventure through the miniature houses of Whoville to the wild greenery of the Jungle of Nool, is the Cat in the Hat, played by senior Ryan Marcone. Following the mischievous cat is wide-eyed Jo-Jo, played by junior Chelsea Holtz. An imaginative kid whose "thinks" get her caught up in a whirlwind of far away places and creatures, Jo-Jo follows the cat into mayhem, bridging worlds to a classic love story of Horton the elephant, played by sophomore Collin Anderson, and Miss Gertrude McFuzz, played by sophomore Erin Williams. While lounging in the Jungle of Nool, Horton hears a cry for help from a tiny speck of dust and pledges to keep the miniature planet of Who out of harm's way. Horton is helped along the way by Gertrude in the moving parable of a love-struck bird trying to catch the eye of a charming, but unnoticing elephant. Meanwhile, a wide-range of whimsical characters enter our story: the sultry Mayzie La Bird, played by senior Margaret Reilly; jungle diva Sour Kangaroo, played by senior Casey Miko and her spunky sidekick Young Roo, played by freshman Marybeth Condon. Narrating are a colorful, dancing entourage of birds, played by seniors Kaitlin Pecora, Rebecca Ford and Suyee On; juniors Tiia Fischer, Jenna Carrano, and Barbara Sowa. The Wickersham Brothers, an unruly band of monkeys, are played by seniors Dan Zold and Dane D'Elia, juniors Ian Jackson and Amanda Krapp, and sophomore Mia Gaspar. Senior L.J. Jepsen and junior Amber Martinez play Mr. and Mrs. Mayor of Whoville, as well as Jo-Jo's parents, trying to discover instructions on how to raise their trouble-making child. Yertle the Turtle, played by sophomore Ryne Pataki presides over the jungle along with sophomore Michael Peterson as the Grinch, and freshman Joey Welch as General Gengus Khan Schmitz. The Bunnell High School S.T.A.G.E. presentation of Seussical the Musical is a true collaboration of art, talent and love. Bunnell High School's Theater Arts teacher and director, Meghann England, and Musical Director Aimee Radics head the project, along with many student leaders. Technical Director John Alusik and Stage Manager Dale Long, as well as choreographers Kaitlin Pecora and Tiia Fischer worked diligently behind the scenes. Casey Miko dually worked as set designer and Margaret Reilly braved her leading role as well as Assistant Director. Gratitude is eternally offered to the benevolent S.T.A.G.E parents, donating their time, energy, and resources to restore and maintain the legacy of Bunnell's S.T.A.G.E. Seussical will be performed Friday, May 15th, at 8:00 PM; Saturday, May16th at 2:30 and 8:00 PM, and a matinee performance on Sunday, May 17th at 2:30. RevitalArts Kickoff Concert
- The Kickoff Concert on the Green was started in 2008 to bring together local musicians and the community. This year, the concert will feature musicians Mike Falzone & the Peppermint Trick, Sean Fournier, Dylan Connor, Zach Miko, and Cristina Harris. All RevitalArts summer programs such as Square One Teen Theatre and Stratford Film Festival will have informational tables set up. In addition, exclusive RevitalArts merchandise will be sold. Square One Teen Theatre Production of Black Comedy and The Actor's Nightmare
- Square One Teen Theatre will perform Christopher Durang's The Actor's Nightmare and Peter Shaffer's Black Comedy. Performances are on July 9 at 7 p.m., July 10 at 8 p.m., and July 11 at 4 and 8 p.m. The summer production will be the third for the teen theatre group in conjunction with the Square One Theatre Company and the student-run non-profit organization RevitalArts. Tickets can be purchased by calling 203-816-8241 or by visiting the website, and will also be sold at the door starting one hour prior to the performance time. The Actor's Nightmare is a comedic one-act play centered on George, an actor forced to play a role he has never rehearsed before. Black Comedy is another comedic one act play about Brindsley Miller who has embellished his apartment with furniture and antiques hoping to impress his fiancée's pompous father. A blown fuse plunges the apartment into darkness, causing the guests to wander around blindly. At each performance Black Comedy will follow The Actor's Nightmare. The cast features Thomas J. Riordan, Franklin Eneh, Casey Miko, Josh Levine, Jeniffer Jaekle, Dan Rahrig, Ryan Marcone, Margaret Reilly (all of Stratford), Kelsey Rogers of Milford, Kathleen Kirtland of North Haven, Alana Cauthen of Bridgeport, and Chelsea Hoffman of Fairfield. Square One Teen Theatre is based in Stratford and previously produced two summer productions; Joseph Kesselring's Arsenic & Old Lace in 2007 and Neil Simon's Plaza Suite in 2008. Each performance proved to be a resounding success. The directors, Tim Jaekle and Zach Miko, are returning to direct this years production. RevitalArts is one of the few entirely student-run non-profit organizations in the country, with a mission to provide young adults with positive, engaging, and educational experiences in the arts and to revitalize the participation in and appreciation of the arts. Annual Stratford Film Festival
- Youth In The Arts, one of the only youth run non-profit organizations in Connecticut, is now accepting submissions to the 5th Annual Stratford Film Festival. Films must be postmarked by July 1, 2009 and must be accompanied with a submission form. Submission forms can be found at www.YouthInTheArts.org/FilmFestival. All materials must be mailed to "The Stratford Film Festival, 320 Keating Dr, Stratford, CT 06614." The 5th Annual Stratford Film Festival will be held on Friday, July 24 at the Stratford Library and Saturday, July 25 at the Stratford Theatre. Both nights will feature different film selections, with an audience-selected award for "Best Picture" ceremony on Saturday. Youth in the Arts is a grassroots movement made up of college and high school students, college graduates, and a few adults - People who are passionate about the arts; people who want to make a difference. Bunnell STAGE Presents - Once Upon a Mattress
- The Bunnell High School Student Theater Arts Guild of Entertainment (S.T.A.G.E.) invites you to partake in our musical production of Once Upon a Mattress, a fractured fairytale based on the classic story, "The Princess and the Pea", by Hans Christian Andersen. Our spoofed tale unfurls through a variety of robust and romantic songs , with fevers of dance and laughter: a true crowd pleaser for ALL AGES! Once Upon a Mattress is an American musical classic. Opening on Broadway in 1959, Mattress launched the career of a young Carol Burnett in the starring role as Princess Winnifred; it was revived on Broadway in 1996 with Sarah Jessica Parker and won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical. The witty and off-beat re-telling focuses on a royal family whose matriarch, Queen Aggravain (Mia Gaspar), has ruled that no one in the kingdom may marry before her son, Prince Dauntless (Collin Anderson). She keeps the kingdom's subjects single by ridiculously foiling every marital candidate the prince entertains. When the noble Sir Harry (Ryne Pataki) and Lady Larken (Erin Williams) learn they are about to become parents, they set out to put an end to the queen's tyranny so that their baby may be born in wedlock. Sir Harry finds the perfect candidate for Prince Dauntless' bride in Princess Winnifred (Tiia Fischer), also known as "Fred" to her friends: an uncouth woman from the "wrong side of the swamp." With the help of Sir Harry, the Minstrel (Brian Talierco) and the Jester (Ian Jackson), she sets out to overcome Queen Aggravain and win her true love's heart. Once Upon a Mattress is directed by Meghann England with the musical assistance of musical director/conductor Stan Wietrzychowski; choreography is directed and inspired by Sara Renstrom, a Bunnell S.T.A.G.E. alumnus. The illustrious castle and set is designed by Lawrence Farrell and constructed with the aid of Matt Kavulich and S.T.A.G.E crew. The large cast includes a plethora of S.T.A.G.E. veterans and newcomers including Amber Martinez (Lady Mabelle), Chelsea Holtz (Lady Rowena) and Courtney Mayberry (Lady Merrill); the remainder of the cast is made up of underclassmen Joey Welch (King Sextimus), Mike Peterson (Wizard), Jonelle Sedgwick (Princess No. 12, Nightingale), Stephanie Neary (Lady Lucille), and a dedicated ensemble of which the show could not go on without! So, come and take a swim through the swamp and help us choose the REAL princess.... Bunnell S.T.A.G.E. Presents "You Can’t Take It With You" December 8-11
- The members of Bunnell S.T.A.G.E. invite you to attend our winter production of You Can’t Take It With You, a knee-slapping comedy written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. This play is a humorous take on a poor secretary who falls in love with her company’s rich Vice President. Her crazy family may just be too much for his prim and proper parents. You Can’t Take It With You won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was the basis for a 1938 film of the same name staring Jean Arthur, James Stewart, Lionel Barrymore and Edward Arnold. The film won the Academy Award for both Best Picture and Best Director. There was also a television adaptation of the original play in 1979 and another in 1984. A situation comedy, staring Harry Morgan as grandpa, aired during 1987-1988. Martin “Grandpa” Vanderhof (Ryan Jepsen) is the head of a zany household. His daughter, Penny (Kaitlyn Wilson) and her husband Paul Sycamore (Tom Valus) write plays and make fireworks while their daughter Essie (Melissa Meraviglia) makes candy that her husband Ed Carmichael (Billy Lang) sells. Essie’s ballet instructor, Boris Kolenkov (Joseph Welch) adds a booming personality to the household. Their daughter Alice (Samantha Carroll) is the only family member with a job outside the house. As a secretary for Kirby and Co., she falls in love with the Vice President, Tony Kirby (Richie DeBaise). Everything is going smoothly until Tony’s parents (Kevin Kiley and Erin Cavoto) meet the Sycamores. What happens when the Kirbys and Sycamores clash? Only time will tell. You Can’t Take It With You is co-directed by Betsy Hull and Sara Renstrom. Senior Marybeth Condon worked tirelessly to produce the show. Special thanks to Lawrence Farrell and the S.T.A.G.E. crew for set construction, lighting and sound.
