Shoe Year's Day Hike
- Start the New Year and your New Year's Resolution off "on the right foot" by joining us for a bonfire, healthy snack and walk on the parks' gorgeous trails. Snowshoes will be available for half-price rental. Event lasts a brief hour or so and all ages are welcome. Dress for the weather as event is held snow or shine! Event is FREE and no pre-registration is required. A Recreation Passport is required for park entry. Meet at the Concession Building, located off the 8 Mile Road entrance just west of Beck. Rec 101: Intro to Snowshoeing
- Join us for a FREE introductory program. Participants will be instructed in snowshoes and accessories, winter safety, appropriate cold weather clothing and basic snowshoeing techniques. It is geared to the first-timer and includes 60 minutes on some shoes trekking around the gorgeous park. Snowshoes can be provided to the first 24 participants, but you must pre-register. Go to https://runningfitevents.webconnex.com/2014snowshoe101 if you need to borrow snowshoes, and note if you need adult or child size in the registration as there are only certain quantities of each size. Event will be held snow or shine. Warm clothing is required and water bottles are recommended. Dress in LAYERS! In the event there is no snow, please join us for a winter trail hike/walk/run and winter tips. Instruction provided courtesy of Running Fit. Feel free to bring your own snowshoes and participate in the class without pre-registering. Please note: Participants must be 12 years of age or older. Owl Prowl at Maybury State Park
- If you’ve never seen a real owl up close, or for that matter even heard one, then you don’t want to miss out on this fascinating nature walk. Join our local naturalist on a 30-45 minute walk along the woods. Owls will be called … listen closely to see if they respond. Hopefully you’ll see one up on his perch, wide-eyed and regal as he surveys his woods. We'll also be doing an education lesson and s’mores and storytelling around the bonfire. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as you will be outside for the duration. Event is held rain or shine. Bring something to drink, a roasting stick if you have one, camp chair, flashlight or miner’s cap and a great outdoor nature story to share. Pre-registration is required for the Maybury prowl by going to www.friendsofmaybury.org. A Recreation Passport is required for park entry. Owl Prowls are taking place state-wide.
