Annual Fire on the Mountain Blacksmith Festival
- Fire on the Mountain is an annual celebration of the art of the blacksmith that is always held on the last Saturday in April in Downtown Spruce Pine, NC. Blacksmithing has deep roots in Western North Carolina. The Fire on the Mountain Festival will both honor and celebrate its history and broaden awareness of quality contemporary iron work. Experience a day of forging techniques and ferrous materials. Vendors, hands-on opportunities, food, music and a Blacksmith Art Exhibition at the Toe River Arts Council. 10 am - 4 pm. Wonderful Weekdays
- Every Wednesday and Thursday. Features guided tours at 11am by naturalist Granny Sam Gahagan, $10/person; Storyteller Bill Carson hosts hayrides at 1 & 3pm, $5/person; at 1-2pm, be a part of the Monarch Butterfly Preservation Project with Judy Carson & Kit Trubey. Guests help find eggs, gather food for the larvae & release adult butterflies, free with guided tour, otherwise $3/person. Then from 1:45-3:15, enjoy informal live music by local musicians. Free. Troutacular Trout Festival
- Troutacular!’s impact is growing each year as it brings attention to our region’s unique fly fishing and the Mountain Heritage Trout Waters program. This event provides kids and families with a fun day to celebrate and learn more about one of our greatest natural resources. Always the First Saturday in June. Activities are being planned that will provide educational and fun entertainment for participants of all ages. Events for the festival will include fishing and wildlife vendors and exhibits, Trout Unlimited, trout fishing, Toe River Outfitters with demonstrations, children’s activities, a fishing tournament for cash prizes, NC Fish and Wildlife exhibits, local crafters and of course food! Annual Grassy Creek Mineral and Gem Show
- At the Annual Grassy Creek Mineral and Gem Show there will be over 60 worldwide vendors with all kinds of lapidary related items for sale. There are gemstones, minerals, jewelry, fossils, quartz, lapidary equipment and more for you to see and purchase. The event is put on by the Parkway Fire and Rescue as a way to make money to purchase new equipment for the fire stations. There is food available for purchase on site. There are many restaurants very close. There are now regular restrooms and showers available. The event is free to the public. Free parking and free admission. Everyone is welcome. Well-mannered dogs are allowed but must be on a leash held by the owner. Hours: 10 to 6 daily with many vendors open earlier and later because they are camping in their booths.
