Green Creek Heritage Festival
- One of Polk County's biggest events celebrating our rural heritage. Antique car and truck show. Crafters and artisans. Bluegrass, country and gospel music all day long. Storytellers. Festival parade at 9:30 am. Always the Saturday after Labor Day. 9am - 3pm. Door prizes all day. Farm animals for the kids to enjoy. Wagon rides. Award winning BBQ. Fireman's barrel roll competition. Farmer's Market for fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, preserves, honey, jelles, jams. Country store items for sale, tractor pull, plus hot dogs, lemonade, and ice cream. In 2012, on Thursday, September 6th there will be 'The Edge of Polk Cross-Country 5k' and 'Poor Man's Supper from 5:30-8:30pm with registration beginning at 6:30 for race. These two events are all fund-raisers for the Green Creek Community Center. Off Hwy 9, turn at Green Creek Fire Department onto Green Creek Road (only goes one way), go to top of the hill and stop Green Creek Township, behind the Fire Department. Annual Columbus Farm Festival
- Join us for the annual Columbus Farm Festival! It promises to be a day full of wonderful experiences that celebrate life in a farming community. Visit the tailgate market and buy local fruit, vegetables, flowers, jams, jellies, baked goods and more. Watch the kids as they show off their prize lambs in the 4-H Livestock Club competition. Feel the thrill of a Revolutionary War re-enactment with the Overmountain Men as they take us back to life in the late 1700s. Crafters show off their wares and how to make them. Carriage ride tours through Columbus offer intriguing details on the history of the town. Various businesses and offices will have open house, including the Polk County History Museum. A Tuba Christmas
- These concerts were started back in the early "70s in New York at Rockefeller Center ice skating rink. About 300 musicians participated at that time. Since then, there are about 150 such concerts spread all over the United States. One of three NC concerts happens in Columbus. 70+ tuba, sousaphone, euphonium and baritone horn players from NC, SC, Georgia, and Pennsylvania play Christmas carols, first with instruments only and then with everyone singing along.
