Birding Discovery Venture at Medoc Mountain State Park
- Bring binoculars and a birder?s field guide if you have them and join a park ranger at the main park office for a trek into the pine and hardwood forest of Medoc Mt. State Park for a look at some of the many species of birds migrating back from the south. The venture will last about two hours and those interested should call the park office to register. Little Fishing Creek Canoe Trip at Medoc Mountain State Park
- Join park rangers at 11 am with your own canoe or kayak for a 2.5 mile float down Little Fishing Creek. The trip will last about 3 hours and participants should plan on bringing their paddles, PFDs and insect repellant. A great way to cool down in the heat of the summer. Stream Discovery/Catch at Medoc Mountain State Park
- Join a ranger at 2 pm at the picnic shelter for a quick review of the fish species that can be caught in Little Fishing Creek and the techniques that catch them. Find out about the park?s varied species of aquatic life and learn about the areas of the creek where deeper holes or rapids are present and how to access them. Bring your own tackle, insect repellent, and fish as long as you?d like. N.C. Fishing License required for all participants over the age of 16. Call the park office to register. Gold Pan at Medoc Mountain State Park
- Lightly sift the various creek bars of Bear Swamp Creek and Little Fishing Creek in a search for gold?both fool?s gold and the real stuff! A park ranger will lead the prospecting from the main park office and the park has pans available for up to 10 participants. Unbeknown to most, one of the state?s largest gold veins transects the region surrounding Medoc Mt. State Park. Call the park office to register. The event begins at 2 pm.
