Celebrate Westerville Chautauqua
- In addition to the Rotary's annual July 4th Fun Run, Independence Day Parade, Westerville Symphony Orchestra concert, and yes, the fireworks display, Celebrate Westerville will play host to the week-long Ohio Chautaqua festivities, bringing Ohio history to life by actors who impersonate historical figures. Visits from some Westerville historical figures are also a distinct possibility. Independence Week activities will even include an old-time baseball game, as the Ohio Village Muffins take the field against some Westerville residents for a gentlemanly day of leisure. Teams will be decked out in full baseball attire from the 1800s, allowing everyone to witness how America's Past-time used to be played.Old-time baseball, parades, fireworks, fun runs...and perhaps even a visit from Thomas Edison himself. Westerville Independence Week will be a premium blend of Westerville's past and present. Inniswood Metro Gardens
- Inniswood was once the 37-acre estate of sisters Grace and Mary Innis, who enjoyed gardening and wildlife. The Innis sisters' desire to preserve and enhance their gardens and woodlands for the enjoyment of all people resulted in the generous donation of their home and property to metro Parks in 1972. Today, Inniswood is a 121-acre scenic nature preserve that is a continual source of inspiration for Central Ohioans and visitors of all ages. Streams and woodlands filled with wildflowers and wildlife provide a majestic backdrop to the beautifully landscaped flowerbeds, rock garden and lawns. Dedicated to the enjoyment, cultivation and preservation of nature's treasures, Inniswood boasts more than 2,000 species of plants, specialty collections of hostas, daffodils, daylilies and several theme gardens including the rose, herb and woodland rock garden. Anti-Saloon League Museum
- In 1909, the Anti-Saloon League of America, a prominent national temperance organization, moved its headquarters and printing operation to Westerville, earning for the town the title "Dry Capital of the World." The museum traces the history of the movement and its effect on Westerville, the country and the world. Also on display at Westerville's Local History Resource Office are items from the John Kasich Congressional Library. The Kasich Collection includes biographical, travel, campaign and Republican Party files from Kasich's terms in the U. S. Celebrate Westerville Labor Day Weekend Celebration
- Celebrate Westerville's culminating event will take place during Labor Day Weekend, nearly 165 years to the day that Westerville was first incorporated back in September 1858. History will come alive throughout the Sunday events with live re-enactments of special moments in Westerville's history. Participants will get to "live" Westerville's history as never before, while at the same time viewing many buildings of yesteryear that continue to remain a vibrant part of Westerville today. Walking and "trolley" tours will include stops at various Underground Railroad homes, Otterbein College, the historic Everal Barn and Homestead at Heritage Park, the Hanby House, a cemetery containing Westerville's founding families, and the historic Uptown District, where plaque markers will be placed this day on some of the most recognized buildings as part of the festivities. Entertainment and a community picnic will take place throughout the day at Alum Creek Park, Westerville's first planned park back in 1934. Located on Main Street just a few blocks west of Uptown, the park will play host to the picnic and accompanying music, drama and other engaging acts Picnic goers will have the option of packing their own fare or purchasing food from any number of "Taste of Westerville" caterers that will participate in the event. The Westerville Symphony Orchestra will play its own version of Picnic with the Pops in the early evening, followed by a recognition of Westerville legacy families, a peek back at the 1958 time capsule.
