First Federal Land Office

Historic Fort Steuben
- Historic Fort Steuben is a reconstructed 18th century fort built on the original site overlooking the Ohio River that opened the Northwest Territory to expansion and settlement. The 150 soldiers garrisoned in the fort protected the surveyors from hostile tribes as they laid out the first Seven Ranges of the Northwest Territory. Exhibits depict military life in 1787. An active archaeological dig is part of the tour. The Fort is open for general admission, tours, and school field trips from May through October. Special programs for students are offered in the summer and the fall. The Ohio Valley Frontier Days in June include period reenactments, crafts, archaeological and surveying exhibits, food, demonstrations, music, lectures, and more. Wheelchair accessible. Visitors can explore the Museum Shop and obtain travel information in the Visitors Center. The adjacent Fort Steuben Park includes the Veterans Memorial Fountain and the newly built Berkman Amphitheater offering concerts and programs in season. The Steubenville City Market is held on Thursdays from June through October and the Thursday Concerts in the Park run through June and July. Andes Manta
- The renowned South American folk ensemble Andes Manta will bring its dynamic presentation to the Exhibit Hall at Historic Fort Steuben. Playing more than 35 traditional instruments, Andes Manta brings to life the ancient culture of the Incas and their predecessors, a people focused on the natural world. These Ecuadorian musicians perform a variety of traditional rhythms, from the haunting melodies of the high Andes to the joyous dance rhythms of Indian village festivals. They weave the magic of their sound into a trip to the Amazon rain forest complete with chirping frogs and calling birds. This free concert is funded and presented as part of the Ohio Arts Council's International Music & Performing Arts in Communities Tour in partnership with the Ohio Arts Presenters Network.
