John A. Lomax Texas Music Gathering and Chuck Wagon Cook-off
- The Lomax Gathering is a "Road Trip Through the Roots of Texas Country Music;" Cowboy Trail Songs and Ballads, Western Swing, Western Music and the sound we call honky-tonk. It’s about the history; about celebrating the music and honoring those who shaped it. The music and song of the cowboy is the "tap root" of Texas Country Music and no one is more responsible for the impact that music had than folklorist John A. Lomax who worked tirelessly to preserve historic "cowboy folklore." American Cowboy Magazine selected this central Texas event for their 2012 Top 101 Western Events, calling it a "top notch cook-off paired with one of the nation's best cowboy music events." The music will feature Texas music legend Steven Fromholz and a few of his friends. The event will also feature Brian Burns, Mack Abernathy and cowboy music artists Glenn Moreland, Earl Gleason and Gary Pratt. Along with the music we will celebrate the history of the Chisholm Trail and its place in Texas music as well acknowledging the era with our Chuck Wagon Cook-off (with public meals).
