John Redmond Hiking and Horseback Riding
category : Equestrian Trails
The Hickory Creek Trail is a multi-use trail for the hiker, horseback rider, and mountain biker. The trail length is currently 16 miles but with the placement of two bridges to cross the branches of Hickory Creek it is planned to lengthen the trail to over 30 miles.
Persons using the Hickory Creek Trail are allowed to keep their horses in the north end of the Damsite Park only. The horses are restricted to the Pinoak and Damsite North group camping areas. Horses cannot be tethered to trees, shelters or other campground facilities. Riders must properly and completely cleanup the area of wastes generated by the horses (leftover hay, etc.) prior to departure. Horse trailers are allowed to be parked off the established campsite pads in the Pinoak area only.
Mountain Bikes are allowed to use the Hickory Creek trail. Bike riders should remember that the horse riders have the primary right of way on the trail.
