At the upper end of Lake Athens their is typically abundant vegetation above the 2495 bridge. At mid-lake their is some timber still standing. Riprap can be found along the dam and around Goat Island there is submerged structure that does attract fish.
Of course spring is a great time to catch largemouth bass. During warm weather the bass tend to go deeper so look to fish drop offs and old river or creek beds.
The White Bass and Crappie are most active from the time Lake Athen\'s water begins to warm up from February through May. And don\'t forget the ever present Sunfish which are great to help teach and excite the beginning angler. Fish for these great little fighters around shallower structure and stands of vegetation.
