The Sedona Heritage Museum’s annual Veteran’s Day Tribute will be on November 11th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Museum. This event has become the community’s official Veterans Day event. The tribute will honor veterans and active service people.
Veteran’s and active military members and their families will be honored guests, but residents are invited to come and meet and thank in-person those who served our country or continue to serve.
The program begins with a Flag Ceremony presented by the Sedona Boy Scout Troop 48 & Cub Scouts. Featured speakers will be Mayor Sandy Moriarty, Yavapai County Supervisor Chip Davis, and Coconino County Supervisor Matt Ryan.
USO-Style entertainment will fill the Museum’s historic shed when Tom and Shondra Jepperson take the stage to perform a mini show of songs that will honor veterans including several American classics. Vocalist Katherine LaTorraca will perform a patriotic music selection.
Light lunch will be served by Museum volunteers, with the help of food host Jerona Java Cafe.
Shuttle service will be provided from nearby parking lots just off Jordan Road; watch for the signs.
The day’s events are underwritten by the City of Sedona and the Sedona Heritage Museum. The program, refreshments and Museum admission are free.

Jerome State Historic Park Famous Homes
The Douglas Mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been an eye-catching landmark in Jerome since 1916, when James S. Douglas built it on the hill just above his Little Daisy Mine.Douglas designed the house as a hotel for mining officials and investors as well as for his own family. It featured a wine cellar, billiard room, marble shower, steam heat, and, much ahead of its time, a central vacuum system. Douglas was most proud of the fact that the house was constructed of adobe bricks that were made on the site.
He also built the Little Daisy Hotel near the mine as a dormitory for the miners. The concrete structure still stands.
This former home is now a museum operated by the Arizona State Parks and is devoted to history of the Jerome area and the Douglas family. The museum features exhibits of photographs, artifacts, and minerals in addition to a video presentation and a 3-D model of the town with its underground mines. One room, the Douglas library, is restored as a period room. There are more displays outside along with a picnic area offering a beautiful panoramic view of the Verde Valley.
