Hillsdale State Park
category : Camping
One of the newest parks in the state, Hillsdale provides a much-needed retreat for urban dwellers. Located about 25 miles southwest of Kansas City, opportunities abound for anglers, boaters, campers, naturalists, hikers, horseback riders, photographers, picnickers, and anyone looking for a break from the bustle of the city.
Hillsdale Lake Camping facilities are managed under the Kansas State Park system. The Hillsdale Lake State Park camping area has primitive (No Electricity) and electrical/water hookup campsites. Camping is only allowed in the 200 designated camping sites in the Russell Crites Area on the west side of the lake. Approximately 99 sites have electric and water hook-ups available where a nightly utility fee is required. Two bathroom/showerhouses are available during the regular camping season, April 15 - October 15.
There are two developed beach areas which are open from sunrise to sunset. One bathroom and one showerhouse/bathroom are open from May 15 - October 15, sunrise to sunset.
An equestrian campground (Saddle Ridge Campground) was opened in 1998. This primitive campground area provides horseback riders with an area to park trailers and to stay over night as they use the horseback trails at the lake. This campground is located on the east side of the lake on 253rd Street directly west of the Rural Water District No.2 treatment plant.
