World's Largest Ball of Twine

category : One Of A Kinds
World's Largest Ball of Twine One of the world's largest balls of twine is displayed in a shelter house in downtown Cawker City on Highway 24.

In 1953, Frank Stoeber, a thrifty local farmer started the ball with used twine from bales of hay. By 1973 the ball had grown large enough to be entered in the Guiness Book of World Records. Though Stoeber died in 1974, Cawker City holds an annual "Twine-A-Thon" in his memory, to add additional twine that has been donated to the ever growing monument. Also on the third Saturday of August, Cawker city holds its annual parade and picnic which provides family fun of all kinds.

The ball now measures 40 feet, 5 inches around, stands over 10 feet tall, weighs over 8 tons and has almost outgrown its fourth building.
