Scandia United Methodist Church
category : Historic Churches
The 1915 church building and the original church of 1877, were under the Swedish Methodist Episcopal Conference. In 1925, the combined charge of Providence Chapel (a country church) and the American Methodist Episcopal Church merged with the Swedish Methodist Episcopal Church and they met in this building. In 1968, the EUB churches merged with Methodist Churches and the Scandia Church became The Scandia United Methodist Church.
Stone from the original structure was used in the basement and the stained glass windows were brought from Minnesota in 1915 by Rev. Emil Malmstrom, the pastor at the time. The windows were placed in memory of pioneer members.
The windows have been a source of joy for the members and visitors alike because of their fine quality and workmanship. Within the larger windows that let in the warmth and light of the sun in colors of yellow, green, purple, red and blue are over a dozen smaller circles with various symbols; such as, the Easter Lillies, the Alpha and Omega, The Harp, the Cross and Crown, The Dove and Olive Branch, and The Grapes, Goblet, and Wheat.
After your visit, take not only the memory of the windows with you, but take their message and inspriation as well.
