Mark Twain Lake Fishing

With over 18,000 acres of water, Mark Twain Lake offers anglers thriving populations of catfish, bass, crappie, walleye, bluegill and sunfish. Timber has been left in the upper ends of the lake and in selected coves to improve fish habitat. According to 2004 reports:Bass. Based on 2003 surveys, bass abundance is at record levels. Two or three of every 10 fish caught after 2004 should exceed 15 inches long!
Crappie. Abundance of small crappie remains high, but anglers should be catching more fish over 9 inches long. Two of every 10 crappie caught will exceed 9 inches when the season begins, but should improve as the season progresses.
Catfishing opportunities include pole and line fishing, jug fishing, and trot line fishing for channel catfish, flathead catfish, and blue catfish. Numerous large catfish are caught each year.
White bass. White bass anglers should watch for schooling shad or underwater humps. Remains sporadic.
Walleye abundance remains low, although anglers are reporting more incidental catches than during recent years.
