Dewey Short Visitors Center
category : Nature Centers
The Dewey Short Visitors Center is located at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Resident Office at Table Rock Dam. The center offers free informative programs to the public, April through October.
The Dewey Center offers visitors a historical look at the Native Americans who called the Ozark Mountains home as well as the abundant wildlife found in the area. A short twenty minute film entitled, "The Taming of the Riviera Blanche", is shown on request.
A four season exhibit displays sights and sounds of the four seasons in the Ozarks, accompanying the displays of Ozark history. The center also houses a modern 176 seat auditorium for the audio-visual presentations of slide programs and films on the Table Rock Dam and the surrounding area.
The center has a nature trail of a serene setting for an introduction to the flora of the Ozarks. The Table Rock Lakeshore Trail is a cooperative effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. The 2.2-mile trail connects the Dewey Short Visitor Center, the Showboat Branson Belle (during Seasonal operating hours) and the picnic area at Table Rock State Park. Persons using the trail in the spring will view dogwood, serviceberry and redbud trees in bloom as well as many wildflower species. During the fall season, visitors are treated to nature's colorful fall foliage. The trail also offers beautiful views of Table Rock Lake. This is a paved trail for the handicapped visitors.
There is no charge for this attraction.
