It is located in the heart of the unspoiled province of Alleghany County near Sparta, NC. Don't be surprised if you see communities of deer, clutches of wild turkeys, red tailed hawks, and a bear with its cub rummaging for berries in the dark woods. Daniel Boone loved this area, and Gerard Manley Hopkins would have relished it, and so would have the likes of Thoreau, Audubon, Teddy Roosevelt, and Winnie the Pooh.
