Carnegie Library

An $8,000 gift more than 85 years ago has resulted in decades of reading enjoyment for citizens of Tekamah and the surrounding area. The building itself, an example of the Renaissance Revival style, is listed on the Nebraska Register of Historic Places. The main level contains original bookshelves and cases, and a circular curio cabinet used to display patrons' collections ranging from holiday bells to miniature tea sets. The lower lever, home of the children's books, is furnished with comfortable pillows and bean bag chairs.

In keeping with the era in which the library was built, Tekamah Garden Club planted and maintains a traditional flower border along the east boundary of the library lawn. Visitors may stroll the grounds and smell the old-fashioned scents of day lilies, climbing roses, nicotiana and various herbs before heading into the library to check out a good book.
