Great Plains State Park is located on 6400-acre Tom Steed Lake west of the Wichita Mountains in Kiowa County near the town of Mountain Park. A drive along Hwy 183 provides a scenic route that winds its way through the mountains along the lake's shoreline. Recreational activities include fishing, boating, skiing, swimming, camping, picnics and hiking.
The 487 acre park has 14 full hookups, 46 electric and water hookups, pull- throughs, 30 primitive sites, three comfort stations (two with showers), sanitary dump station, grocery, bait shop, picnic areas, group shelter, 2 lighted boat ramps and 2 docks, swimming beach, playground, and nature/hiking/biking trails.
A moderate 1 1/2 mile nature trail overlooks old Snyder Lake and the dam on the Tom Steed Reservoir where birdwatching and wildlife viewing are favorite activities.
