The first weekend in June gives locals and visitors a chance to travel back in time when
covered wagons and the new railroad were the principle means of transportation along the trails that cut through the Fairbury area in southeast Nebraska.
Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, located 6 miles southeast of Fairbury along the Oregon Trail will play host to many activities including Black Powder demonstrations, Living History demonstrations, Mounted Cowboy Shootout and Buffalo Stew Cookout. Tourists, outdoorsmen and nature lovers have plenty of opportunities to take full advantage of the great outdoors while in Fairbury.

The Fairbury Journal-News once printed that the Jefferson County Courthouse was not a museum, but perhaps it should qualify. Business is still conducted daily but visitors may wish to stop in just to have a look at the building and it's contents. Built in 1891 at a cost of $60,000

In 1907, the Fairbury community received a grant of $12,500 from Andrew Carnegie. Ground was broken on October 5, 1908, and the library opened to the public December 10, 1909
