James A. Garfield National Historic Site

Visit President Garfield’s home, which has been restored to the period 1885-1904 when he conducted his famous “front porch” campaign. It was during this time that the site was nicknamed Lawnfield by journalists who literally camped out on the front lawn. The recent award-winning restoration includes reproduced wallpapers, shined brass, polished wood, and restoration of gingerbread work on the exterior.

Tours include the library, which set the precedent for Presidents to have memorial libraries. Also available for viewing is the Visitor Center, which explores Garfield’s professional life, the campaign house, and the windmill.
