Washington
Washington compresses a lot of terrain into a small footprint, and the shifts happen quickly. You can move from water to mountains to dry interior land in a single day, and each section feels like a different trip.
Western Washington is dense, green, and shaped by water. Ferries, shorelines, and short drives define how you move. Once you push into the Cascades, everything changes – elevation, weather, and pace. Roads narrow, lakes sit higher, and the day becomes more about gaining access than covering distance.
Cross the mountains and the state opens up again. Eastern Washington is drier, more exposed, and built around rivers and long views. It’s easier to move, but the landscape feels less contained.
Most trips here are about choosing a zone and letting it define the day. Summer is the most flexible season, but shoulder seasons can be just as strong if you’re paying attention to elevation and weather patterns.
