Canton Lake Public Hunting Area

A major attraction for hunters is the 14,862 acre public hunting area managed by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. Located along the north and west portion of the lake, the land is forested with post oak-blackjack timber on the uplands and cottonwood, chittam wood, elm and hackberry in the bottomlands. The area provides some of the best hunting in the state. Approximately 2,000 acres are planted to wildlife foods such as maize, wheat and other grains for bobwhite quail, deer, waterfowl, squirrel, rabbit, wild turkey and dove.
