Manhattan Festival of Lights welcomes the holiday season as Blue Earth Plaza in southeast Manhattan is bathed in glorious lighting to usher in the celebration of the season. The 7 p.m. lighting ceremony kicks off a full schedule of evening events – with an appearance by the man himself, Santa Claus – and the lights glow for five weeks in Blue Earth Plaza. The entire area is awash with holiday splendor right up until the New Year’s holiday apple drop celebration, Dec. 31 in Aggieville.
