Selections from The Werner H. Kramarsky Collection of Contemporary American Drawings
highlight collector Wynn Kramarsky’s ongoing advocacy of the abstract, the geometric and the minimalist vein of American art primarily created in the early 1960s by artists working in New York City. Kramarsky is known for his focus on the art itself rather than current trends or the reputation of the artist. His collection of more than 6000 works include icons and lesser known artists who have challenged accepted conventions in favor of innovativeness; when he loans art from his collection, he insists that the exhibition represent a balance between established artists and “newbies.” The exhibition represents a range of artists using varied techniques including William Anastasi, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Cy Twombly, Brice Marden, Sol Lewitt.
