13th Annual Little Cities of Black Diamonds Day
"Miners of the Little Cities" is the theme for this year's 13th annual event that explores and celebrates the role of coal miners in this boom-to-bust mining region (1870-1925) that now is a destination for geotourists in search of history, culture and the beauty of Ohio's only national forest, the Wayne National Forest. A traveling "legacy of coal mining exhibit" from the Bob Evans Farm Museum, a registry of area miners and a one-hour documentary: "Devil's Oven: The Fire in the Heart of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds" begining at 2:30PM greet the visitor. A one-hour concert by "Rosemont Crossing" featuring music from the 1970's begins at 1PM.. The event includes living history characters, food, quilt show and a gymnasium full of exhibits featuring regional history, nature and art.
