About the Trail

The Broken Arrow Trail is located just outside of downtown Sedona and spans 4.2 miles long with an elevation gain of almost 1,000 feet. It is considered a moderate trail, but it can be quite strenuous due to the steep climbs you must make during some parts of the hike. You should plan on spending at least 3 hours to complete the entire loop. The trailhead itself is easy to find – just look for Schnebly Hill Road and park your car there, then follow the signs that will lead you up to the start of the hike.

What to Expect Along Your Hike

Once you start hiking along this trail, prepare to be amazed! The views are breathtaking as you ascend higher and higher up towards Submarine Rock – a large red-rock formation that looks like a submarine from certain angles. Along your way, stop occasionally and take in all of the gorgeous desert scenery around you – cacti, wildflowers, and expansive views that stretch for miles on end! Once you reach Submarine Rock at around 2 miles in, you can then descend down into Boynton Canyon. This part of the hike will be much easier as it’s mostly downhill from here until you come back out onto Schnebly Hill Road where your car is parked.
