Hallettsville

Hallettsville is predominantly a German/Czech community founded in l838, and named for Mrs. John Hallett who gave the land for the townsite. Hallettsville has been Lavaca County seat since l852, and its location on the Lavaca River makes it equidistant from Houston and San Antonio.

Hallettsville’s community park includes golf course, playground, campground with RV hookups. The State Championship High School Rodeo was established here in 1947. It is also home to the State Championship Domino and Domino “42” Tournaments, the State Championship Fiddler’s Frolics, and the annual Kolache Fest. Ripley’s Believe it or Not! once called Hallettsville the “13” city: in 1913 it had 13 letters in the name, 1300 population, 13 churches, 13 newspapers, and 13 saloons.

Hunters take deer, dove, turkey and wild hogs during their seasons.
