Historic Court House Square

The current courthouse was built in 1922 and boasts beautiful Italian marble on the inside.

Deer Statue, located at the southwest corner of the square, marks the spot Girard Founder, Dr. Charles H. Strong shot a deer and proclaimed that he would build a town on this very spot in 1868. Dr. Strong had been on a dual quest that day in 1867 for a deer for food and a good piece of land for a county seat. His hunting trip brought him to the spot that would later be the Courthouse Square in Girard where he felled the deer.

Take a walk around the square and note the bronze plaques on various buildings of interest.
