Masonboro Island

Evidence strongly suggests that the first stretch of the continental American Coastline ever spotted and described by European explorers was the 8-mile long beach now called Masonboro Island. Masonboro is the largest undisturbed barrier island along the southern part of North Carolina’s coast.
