Apollo Civic Theatre – The Andersonville Trial

Friday & Saturday 8:00pm

Sunday at 2:00pm

Captain Henry Wirz was commander of the Confederate prison at Andersonville, Georgia, during the Civil War. Built to hold only 10,000 Union prisoners of war, almost 14,000 of the 45,000 held at Andersonville met their death due to inadequate medical care, shoddy sanitation, or lack of proper food. Wirz maintains that he was following orders from his superiors and was unable to prevent the tragedy. But, shouldn’t someone have to pay? Based on a true story, Wirz is prosecuted for his crimes. Emotions run high in this intense and thought-provoking courtroom drama, which is a provocative study of the moral issues involved in the conflict between obligation to authority and individual conscience.
