Arvonia School House

Although it is over the county line in Osage County, the Arvonia Schoolhouse was the focus for Lebo’s Welsh community and the location for a BBC documentary about the Welsh in America a few years ago. Among Lebo’s Welsh best remembered today are the Jones brothers, Walter and Evan, who left their considerable estate to be used for the health care of children living in the counties in which they owned property.

In time that original goal was broadened to include educational assistance and recreational facilities, such as the Jones Park, built with matching funds in several towns in Coffey County.
