AWCI History of Time Museum

The American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute Museum is truly a study in time. Reminders of where you are range from the many time-keeping devices, tools, artwork and advertising pieces, to the shape of the building itself.

The museum has examples of ancient timekeeping devices, from sundials and hourglasses to the latest in quartz watches and mechanical clocks. A watchmaker's bench, with a wide variety of tools and equipment displayed, shows how these devices were repaired and maintained. A 28-foot Foucoult pendulum is the centerpiece of the museum, displaying scientific properties used in clocks from yesterday and today.

A large exhibit of period advertising, particularly Gruen Watch advertisements, is part of the Museum. Other artwork and prints are displayed as well. Adjacent to the Museum is our Horological Library, where members of AWCI are allowed to check out our many publications on horology.

Admission is free for school groups. A small fee is charged for other organized groups. Donations for exhibit and building maintenance are appreciated. Museum is closed on most major holidays.
