Belmont Abbey Historic District

On National Register of Historic Places. Catholic monastery and liberal arts college (Belmont Abbey College, the oldest in southeast United States), Our Lady of Lourdes Pilgrimage Shrine (1891), Belmont Abbey Cathedral (1892), cemetery (1890), academic library with extensive rare-books collection, theater, intercollegiate athletic facilities. Was home to the first Benedictine monks in the Carolinas.
