Nature Preserves
Cedar Bog Nature Preserve
A bit of Ohio’s ancient history remains intact at Cedar Bog, where visitors can view the nature preserve along a mile-long boardwalk.
Cedar Bog, actually an alkaline fen, was created by receding glacial ice. Because of an artesian flow of cool water that is filtered through limestone gravel, visitors can find unique plants, animals and environmental conditions at the bog. In addition to the white cedar the site was named for, visitors can find swamp birch, prairie dock, spotted turtles and swamp rattlesnakes. It is a great environmental wonder left in southwestern Ohio.
