George and Pink Vegetable Stand

Open every day, year-round, from 8am to 8pm, run by Pink Brown and her father George. The growing season here in coastal South Carolina never ends and the Edisto Island soil is famously fertile, so the bins in this wooden, dirt-floored building always have something of interest. In the winter, you?ll find beautiful potatoes, yams, squash, red and green peppers, and cabbage, as well as flavorful tomatoes. Starting early in the spring, Pink Brown gets in cantaloupes that are ultrasweet; and by mid-May the sweet corn starts coming. This is a charming island place, located down a long unpaved, tree-shaded road off Highway 174. All around the hut where vegetables are sold free-ranging chickens scratch and cluck and crow.
