Greef General Store

The Greef General Store was built of brick and stone in the early 1840’s, it was once the largest store in the county, and housed the Greef brothers’ banking operations.

The Greef General Store, Corns House, Bank Building and Odd Fellows Hall, were obtained by the Van Buren County Conservation Board in the 1960’s. Through the years, the County Conservation and many volunteers have contributed to the store in its growth to where it is today. The store and other businesses may open for tours or upon request during non- scheduled hours and seasons.

The Greef General Store is currently used for renting spaces to individual artists, antique and craft vendors. Each season there are new vendors and new items for sale to the public. The Corns House is rented out to Gems4Me and is a favorite of rock hounds and jewelry enthusiasts. The Bank Building is rented to Under The Oak Natural Soy Candles & Gifts which has birdhouse’s, benches dipped teddy bears and more. Dog treats from Bloom and Bark are sold at the Greef Store

Visitors can view the Native American artifacts, and museum items and pictures dating back to the early periods of Bentonsport. The upstairs room is Corley’s Portrait Studio and lower level is open to room rentals and murder mystery dinners available for tour groups. The Addie May Fudge Shop is at the Post Office across the street.
