Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park – Niagara Centennial Commemoration – Niagara: A Story of Freedom

In 2006, Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the gathering of the Niagara Movement, the first major civil rights organization of the 20th century. Founded in 1905 by Dr. W.E.B. DuBois this group was the forerunner to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

The public centennial commemorative activities will be held on August 18, 19, 20, 2006. Music, drama, scholarship, panel discussions and ranger guided programs are just a few of the opportunities that will be offered during this three day commemoration.

Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park hopes that you will join us for this special commemorative event to honor the Niagara Movement, the cornerstone of the modern civil rights era.
